Bridal Communiversity Classes

Congratulations, on becoming engaged! This is an exciting time!. As you finish sharing your good news and showing off your shiny new ring, you may begin to realize the magnitude of details involved in planning a wedding, large or small. The internet has millions of wedding lists, but they don’t tell you what is proper, what is not, so don’t let Google be your only resource. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a local, certified wedding professional with over 30 years of experience in the wedding and travel industries, help you with your planning? Basic Sewing 101

Don’t know what to do with all the knobs on your sewing machine? Is it still in the box? If you answered yes to these questions, then this is the class for you. We will cover basics on your machine including the straight and zigzag stitch, blind hemming, buttonholes and putting in a zipper.

Home Décor Sewing

Students will learn how to make basic throw pillows with a zipper opening. Cording, ruffles and trimmings will be discussed and demonstrated.

Sewing with Patterns

Sewing with Patterns We will go through the entire process of measuring, picking out a pattern and sewing a mockup out of muslin. Then we will fit the prototype and then make adjustments on the paper pattern and then make the garment in the fashion fabric. This will give you a finished custom fit garment.

Digital Photography – Beginners

Create better photos and have more fun with your digital camera. This class, led by Robert Jordan, UM Director of Brand Photography Services and an award winning photographyer, covers camera techniques, composition and lighting tips that can be applied to all cameras and will help you make the most of photo opportunities, whether you are just starting out or have been taking photos for years! Digital Photography – Taking Control

In this class UM Director of Brand Photography Services Robert Jordan helps participants to expand their understanding of how the camera ‘sees’ the world differently from the eye and how to use that knowledge, along with advanced techniques, to create the visualized images. Robert will touch on postproduction editing and enhancing images as well as hardware options for archiving and printing. Participants must bring their own cameras.

Landscaping Boot Camp

This engaging and empowering event is designed to give home owners and landscape professionals the tools to get started and the ability to landscape with confidence. Easy systematic ways to implement effective landscape solutions will be taught at this amazing event. Adobe Photoshop Basics

Adobe Photoshop Basics Learn to edit and enhance your photos using Adobe Photoshop. This two-hour introductory workshop will teach participants to:

  • Change the size and resolution of a photo
  • Recognize and use the toolbar
  • Use photo editing and color correction techniques
  • Adjust color and contrast settings
  • Correct red-eye caused by flash photography
  • Make selections and crop images
  • Clean up and restore old family photos
  • Save photos in various file formats

Each participant is encouraged to bring an old family photo to practice restoring during the class. (A digital copy is preferred, but if you don’t have access to a scanner, bring the printed photo for scanning during the class.)

Know the basics of Adobe Photoshop and want to learn a little more? This two-hour workshop will teach participants to:

  • Use various selection tools to select parts of a photo
  • Extract an image from its background and place it into another photo
  • Apply artistic and textural photo effects
  • Create and manipulate layers
  • Create images from scratch using paint tools
  • Add text to images

Organize, Edit, and Share Your Photos Using iPhoto

Find out how iPhoto makes it easy to find, enhance, and share your entire digital photo collection. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to organized your photos by events, faces, places and albums; edit and retouch as you learn new ways to make your photos look their best; and discover how easy it is to enjoy and share your photos using slide shows, photo books, calendars, Facebook, and more. If possible, bring a flash drive or CD with some of your own photos to use during this workshop.

This is a basic cupcake decorating class. Cupcake Decorating does not require any prior experience. This hands-on class allows participants to experiment and practice their cake-decorating skills under the direction of expert instructor Anita Cook. Anita has been decorating cakes for 26 years and was trained in cake and candy decorating at Calico Cake Shop in Los Angeles. A supply list will be emailed upon registration.

Beginner East Coast Swing

East Coast Swing has its origins in jitterbug, lindy hop, and other fun dances of the 40’s and 50’s. It is one of the most commonly used dances, so come learn it for the first time or brush up on your basics!
