Basic Sewing 101

Learn how to use your sewing machine. Participants will bring in their machines for a quick tutorial on how they work and what those pieces, knobs and buttons are all for. We will practice on how to put in zippers, button holes, gathering stitches, hemming, etc. A minimal material list is available at the time of registration. Class is limited to 10.

Home Décor Sewing

Learn how to sew simple throw pillows for your couch or bed. Basic sewing skills are helpful, but not necessary. You will need to bring your own sewing machine and materials. We will discuss pattern options and design details as well. Participants will make a pillow in class and go home with lots of ideas for more pillows to make. A material list is available at the time of registration. Class is limited to 10.

Alter Your Own Clothes

Save some money and your favorite clothes. We will cover simple repair and alteration techniques in this short lesson. Learn how to hem pants by hand and machine. Taking in simple garments, replacing buttons and fixing rips will be demonstrated. . A material list is available at the time of registration. Class is limited to 10.

Digital Photography – Beginners

Create better photos and have more fun with your digital camera. This class, led by Robert Jordan, UM Director of Brand Photography Services and an award winning photographer, covers camera techniques, composition and lighting tips that can be applied to all cameras and will help you make the most of photo opportunities, whether you are just starting out or have been taking photos for years! Bring your creative spirit, enthusiasm, and camera!

We will expand our understanding of how the camera ‘sees’ the world differently from our eyes and how to use that knowledge, along with advanced techniques, to enable you to create the images you have visualized. We will touch on post-production editing and enhancing your images as well as hardware options for archiving and printing. Bring your creative spirit, enthusiasm, and camera!

Salsa and Bachata (Level 1 and Level 2)

This class will meet for 8 weeks and cover the basics of Salsa and Bachata, dances that originate in Cuba and the Dominican Republic, respectively.

These club-style dances are fun and simple with lots of room for variation and improvisation. You will be amazed at how quickly you can put your new moves to work!

Hustle and Night Club Two Step (Level 1 and 2)

This class will meet for 8 weeks and cover the basics of Hustle and Night Club Two Step - two social dances. While both dances were created in the era of disco, they now fit with much of today's popular music. Just like they sound, both dances fit in well at the local night club or at the next wedding you attend.

This class will meet for 8 weeks where we will work on advanced patterns and technique in both Rumba and Cha Cha. This class is only for those students with a working knowledge of both dances.

This class will give you details on why you should coupon, how to get started, and how to save the most money and on what items. Also, you be walked through several different websites that can be used to assist in saving you some money. Class limited to 20.

Stress 101 Tool Box

Are you having trouble sleeping, concentrating? Are you feeling overwhelmed, unable to make a decision? Do you suffer from headaches, tummy problems, and chronic colds? Stress is often the culprit. This class will give participants the techniques and tools to reduce stress and improve quality of life. Tips and techniques include breath work, aromatherapy, laughter therapy, nutritional guidance, and more. Come and explore, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. This class is open to students, teachers and anyone, any age that wants to manage stress naturally.

SPECIAL SKILLS


Occupational Spanish for Firefighters

This class prepares non-Spanish speaking firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs to respond to fire, chemical, and still alarms where only Spanish is spoken. By learning a variety of commands, firefighters can take charge of the situation and direct victims and other bystanders to safety. No prior knowledge of Spanish necessary.

Let Your Fingers Do The Talking (for Adults)

This 4 week class is a beginner course in American Sign Language to help adults learn basic communication skills for communicating with individuals who are deaf within the community. The participants utilize vocabulary and fingerspelling. Each participant will receive handouts from the instructor.

Age range: 18 and up. Class limited to 20.
