Beginner Knitting: Making Chausson Slippers

Learn the basics of knitting while making a pair of cozy slipper socks. Over 6 weeks, instructor Ashley Morgan will share her 20 years of teaching and practicing knitting with participants as they work toward completing their beginner project.

Skills introduced will include:

  • Casting on
  • Knit stitch
  • Purl stitch
  • K2 tog decrease
  • Knit1 purl1 ribbing
  • Binding off
  • Seaming
  • Pattern Reading

The classes will also cover fiber characteristics and care, where to find patterns and resources, and project planning and troubleshooting.

Provided Supplies: Pattern, Caron "Macchiato Cakes" yarn, knitting needles, and tapestry needle provided. You can also bring your own if you prefer a particular color scheme or needle type.

Recommended Supplies:

  • US 10/6 mm 10-inch straight knitting needles OR
  • US 10/6 mm Circular needle between 16 and 36 inches
  • About 400 yards of a bulky weight yarn (No. 5)
  • Yarn/tapestry needle

You may also wish to bring the following:

  • Project bag
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil or pen
