Withdrawal Policies

Policies on withdrawal depend on whether or not the student is enrolled as a student at the University of Mississippi. Within those two categories there are rules. All Flex students (UM and non-UM) are required to submit the Withdrawal Request Questionnaire located within their iStudy application. Flex students will not be officially withdrawn unless the iStudy office receives this submitted questionnaire directly via their application. The iStudy withdrawal questionnaire is required because Flex courses cannot be dropped through myOleMiss.

UM Students:

Semester-based courses

  • The option to drop/withdraw from a semester is permitted at any time within the course withdrawal period (deadline for course withdrawals — no refund, refund period ended). Use your myOleMIss account to drop the course.
  • Another course may be added within the semester registration period.
  • If an iStudy course is added after the registration window is closed, it must be a Flex iStudy course. The cost of the course would then be in addition to the cost of full-time tuition.
  • Semester courses are unavailable once the registration window is closed.
  • Refunds are not available after the semester refund date.
  • See the UM Academic Calendar for specific semester dates and deadlines.

Flex courses

  • UM students may withdraw from their Flex iStudy course if the midpoint of the course is not reached and the course is not expired.
  • A letter grade (A, B, C, D, or F) will be assigned to any UM student who is past the course midpoint but does not complete the course.
  • FAILURE TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM WILL RESULT IN FAILURE OF THE COURSE. (See applicable course syllabi for more information.)
  • Students should consider carefully before withdrawing because enrolling in the same course requires payment of the full fee at current tuition rates.
  • The maximum permissible time for completion is one calendar year plus one purchased 3-month extension.
  • To apply for a withdrawal, please fill out the iStudy Withdrawal Request located within your application. You will need to log back into your iStudy application to find the iStudy Withdrawal Request.

Non-UM Students:

  • Non-UM students may withdraw at any time prior to taking the final examination with no academic penalty and no grade will be recorded.
  • Refunds are only allowed if the withdrawal form is received within 30 days of enrolling.
  • Re-enrolling requires full payment of tuition.
  • To apply for a withdrawal, please fill out the iStudy Withdrawal Request located within your application. You will need to log back into your iStudy application to find the iStudy Withdrawal Request.
