Mrs. Bourne is a graduate of William Carey University and the University of Southern Mississippi, where she received her MBA and BS Degree in Accounting, respectively. She holds a Mississippi Educator License with endorsements in Business, English, Mathematics, General Science, Social Studies, Psychology, AP World History, Counseling, and Administration.

Prior to accepting her current position as Administrator of The University of Mississippi High School, she served as the Guidance Counselor at South Pontotoc High School, and District Data and Guidance Coordinator at the Pontotoc City School District.

Course Description:

The Mississippi Department of Education is dedicated to student success, which includes improving student achievement of 21st Century Skills. The Mississippi College and Career Readiness Course curriculum (CCR) provides a consistent and clear understanding of what students are to be able to do at the end of each unit. The curriculum was designed to be relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills needed for success in college, career, and to compete in a global economy.

Required Textbook:

There is no textbook required for this course. All study materials will be provided or can be accessed online.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain what it means to be college and career ready.
  • Create academic and personal SMART goals for current school year. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely)
  • Determine that all selected diploma requirements, based on chosen career cluster, are current and postsecondary plans are developed.
  • Determine which college/university major or career pathway best meets completed ISP.
  • Discuss the purpose and development of a student portfolio.
  • Demonstrate how to collect and organize artifacts into the student portfolio.
  • Evaluate progress for completion of final portfolio.
  • Present final portfolio for evaluation.
  • Investigate potential colleges/universities or military branches based on ISP and career interests.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete college admissions applications.
  • Prepare for transition to college.
  • Develop a college financial plan that identifies funding sources for, and sustainability for, each year required for a degree or certification of selected academic or technical program.
  • Complete applications for financial aid.
  • Research selected career path based on interests and program of study in completed ISP.
  • Participate in an internship, a career interview, or job shadowing in person or online that is related to a researched career field.
  • Compare sources of personal income and compensation and analyze factors that affect net income.
  • Explain the role that digital media plays in an individuals' daily life.
  • Demonstrate proper etiquette when collaborating, communicating, and using digital media.
  • Evaluate the impact of social media on digital communities.
  • Analyze copyright and plagiarism laws.
  • Explore the various facets of internet privacy.
  • Create a presentation that applies knowledge and an understanding of an aspect of digital literacy and/or digital citizenship.

Grading Scale:

93 - 100% = A
85 - 92% = B
75 - 84% = C
70 - 74% = D
Below 69% = F

The grading format is as follows:

Minor Grades: 50% (Discussions, Quizzes, and Tests)
Major Grades: 50% (Journals and Portfolios)
