Course Description

This Independent Study course is comprised of seventeen lessons that present the first principles of Italian language and culture and will teach you to communicate in Italian beginning with the first lesson.

There are a broad variety of assignments that will help you build proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing while learning about Italian language and culture. Each lesson includes an Instruction and Practice assignment to reinforce the material in the book and prepare you for the Homework assignment for each lesson. The lesson at the end of each chapter also contains Learn Smart activities that allow students to review and practice all the information from that chapter.

In lessons 11 and 14 there are writing assignments, Tema 1 and Tema 2 respectively, that include a first draft and then a revision based on the instructor’s corrections. The course also includes a midterm and a final, as well as an oral exam at the end of the course that will be recorded and submitted to the instructor.
