Distance Education Testing Lab Policies & Procedures

Online Registration

  • The Distance Education Testing Lab provides testing services for many exams. For your convenience, we have fast and secure online registration for Ole Miss Online exams.
  • Upon a successful registration, you will receive an email confirmation. Please bring the email confirmation with you to your testing appointment.

Rescheduling and No-Shows

  • If you do not show up for your exam or reschedule your appointment less than two hours prior to your scheduled appointment time, your appointment will be closed and the online appointment system will not allow you to reschedule unless you pay a $20 fee for a makeup exam.

Email Confirmations

  • If you do not receive an email confirmation, please check your spam blocker.
  • If you check your spam folder and still do not see your confirmation, you can request to have your email confirmation resent to you.
  • If you don't receive your email receipt within 15 minutes, please try again.
  • If you do not receive an email confirmation, it is likely that your appointment was not made.  Please try again to make your appointment or call our office at (662) 915-1267

Inclement Weather Policy

  • If the university is open, testing will take place at your scheduled appointment time. In the event the university is closed, Ole Miss Online students will receive an email from your instructor with instructions about rescheduling your exam. UMHS and iStudy students will be contacted by the appropriate office. All others will be contacted by the DETL staff.

Accommodated Testing

  • If you will be requesting accommodated testing, please provide a copy of your approved testing accommodations form to your instructor PRIOR to registering for the exam. It is the instructor's responsibility to set the extended time, if required, for every student with disabilities. You do not need to provide our office with your accommodations.
  • Students who need accommodations beyond extended time and distraction (e.g., reduced environments) will need to contact SDS Testing Services to schedule their exams.
    • The testing lab can provide students with earplugs to reduce distractions without needing any accommodations. Ask the front desk for these materials prior to starting your exam.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The testing lab closes at 5 pm Monday through Friday (except for special hours during midterms and finals). It is your responsibility to allow yourself enough time, when scheduling your appointment, to complete your exam. (i.e. if your exam is three hours and your appointment is at 3 pm, you will not be allowed to continue your exam past our closing time).

Distance Education Testing Lab (DETL) Policy

The testing lab will charge a $20 fee for the following:

  • All makeup exam appointments for students who miss a scheduled appointment.
  • Students who are testing outside of the exam window (exam has been approved by the instructor).
  • Exams that are not scheduled by Friday at 5pm the week before midterms and finals.
  1. If you do not show up for your exam at the appointed time or reschedule your appointment less than two hours prior to your scheduled appointment time, your appointment will be closed and the online appointment system will not allow you to reschedule.
  2. Do not make another appointment using a different email address. If duplicate registrations are made for the same exam, the appointment with the latest time will be deleted. If your duplicate appointment is deleted and you miss your first appointment, you will have to register for a makeup exam and pay the $20 makeup fee. Be sure to check with your instructor if you are scheduling for a makeup exam that is outside of the exam testing window.
  3. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment. If you arrive 10 minutes past your appointment time, you will automatically be marked as a “No Show” and will not be allowed to test at that time.
  4. You must provide a picture ID (valid state issued ID, valid UM ID, or Passport) to be allowed to enter the testing lab. A photo of your ID is NOT acceptable. No Exceptions!
  5. Personal items are not allowed in the testing lab (cell phones, laptops, electronic tablets, book bags, hats, sunglasses, watches, food, beverages, wallets, keys, pens, pencils, etc.).
  6. There is no smoking or vaping allowed in the testing lab at any time.  Students with vapes will be dismissed from the lab and your appointment canceled.

  9. When scheduling your appointment, please check the hours of the testing lab to make sure you will have enough time to complete your exam. (i.e. If your exam is three hours and your appointment is at 3:00 p.m., you will not be allowed to continue your exam past our closing time.)

If you fail to comply with the testing center policy, you will not be allowed to test in the testing lab.

Proctored Assessment Policy for Web-Based or Online Courses

  1. Ole Miss Online students must comply with the Proctored Testing Policy for web-based or online courses.
  2. If an online or web-based course requires proctored assessments, then it is the responsibility of the individual taking the course (hereinafter “student”) to schedule proctored assessments.
  3. All proctored assessments must be taken under the supervision of an approved test site official (hereinafter “proctor”).
  4. All students must use a proctor who has been approved by the Department of Online Learning and Independent Study.
  5. The Department of Online Learning and iStudy reserves the right to reject any proctor and to require the student to come to a campus of the University of Mississippi to take the proctored assessment.
  6. Students requesting special testing accommodations must provide copies of the appropriate documentation from the University of Mississippi’s Office of Student Disability Services to the Department of Online Learning and Independent Study no later than seven (7) working days prior to the student’s first proctored assessment each semester.
  7. Students who are unable to sit for a proctored assessment at the main campus or one of the regional campuses of the University of Mississippi must submit an “Off-Campus Exam Request Form” in a timely manner as outlined below.
  8. The Department of Online Learning and iStudy should receive a student’s completed “Off-Campus Exam Request Form” as early as possible, but no later than seven (7) working days prior to the opening of the testing window for each proctored assessment.
  9. If an “Off-Campus Exam Request Form” is received after the stated deadline, it is possible that the exam will be received by the proctor after the appropriate testing date, thereby affecting the student’s grade. Additionally, the processing fee for late submissions of the “Off-Campus Exam Request Form” will be $40 per exam if in the U.S. and $60 per exam if outside the U.S. These fees will be charged to the student’s Bursar account.
  10. The Department of Online Learning and iStudy cannot accommodate an “Off-Campus Exam Request Form” received less than forty-eight (48) hours before the scheduled exam date and time.
  11. If an exam must be sent via express mail to meet a testing deadline as a result of a student’s delay in submitting the completed “Off-Campus Exam Request Form” or of inaccuracies on the application, the express mail charges will be charged to the student’s Bursar account.
  12. It is the responsibility of the student to pay the proctor fees required by some testing centers.
