Study USA Scholarships

The Study USA program is designed to offer career-focused experiences that are accessible and affordable for UM Students. Here are some program cost and scholarship insights:

  • On averageStudy USA program fees cost $1,325.
  • Need-based scholarships awarded to students range from $250-$750.
  • In 2023, over 30% of students in the program received program scholarships.
  • On average, scholarships awarded averaged around $500.

How to apply for program scholarships:

  1. To be considered for our program scholarships, complete a Study USA program application by the February 22, 2024 priority deadline in order to receive your award notification prior to the final application withdrawal date.  
  2. Applications received after the priority deadline may still be eligible for scholarships but will not be guaranteed notification of award amount prior to the final withdrawal period. 
  3. To complete your application, you must submit: a completed FAFSA, proof of identification, and a personal statement (500 word maximum) sharing why you are interested in this course. 
  4. After your application is reviewed by the Office of College Programs and the Office of Financial Aid, you will receive an email notification of your award amount.

Outreach Study USA Scholarship

Deadline: February 22nd priority application
The Outreach Study USA Scholarship supports student participation in Study USA courses.  Scholarship awards range from $500 to $750 and are designed to help offset the additional expenses associated with academic travel. 

Students must meet the following criteria to be considered:

Once awards have been announced, students must confirm their intention to accept the award and participate in the program. Students who do not enroll in and complete their program will not be granted scholarship funds.

Carolyn Ellis Staton Study USA Scholarship

Deadline: February 22nd priority application
The Carolyn Ellis Staton Study USA Scholarship was established to increase access to unique experiential learning programs. These scholarships will help to make engaging educational travel opportunities more accessible to students with financial need. Scholarship awards range from $250 to $750 and are designed to help offset the additional expenses associated with academic travel. 

Students must meet the following criteria to be considered:

College of Liberal Arts Study USA Scholarship

Deadline: Coincides with program deadline
The College of Liberal Arts Study USA Scholarship supports CLA student participation in Study USA courses led by College faculty. Scholarship awards of $500 are designed to help offset the additional expenses associated with academic travel.

Students must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Be a degree-seeking University of Mississippi student
  • Have declared a major in the College of Liberal Arts
  • Demonstrate financial need as established by the UM Office of Financial Aid
  • Complete a Summer Aid Form through the UM Office of Financial Aid (for summer classes)
  • Submit a complete Study USA program application to a course led by a CLA faculty member, including the scholarship application and personal statement

Additional University Scholarship Opportunities

In addition to the scholarships outlined above, students in some programs have additional funding opportunities available to support their Study USA experience. These programs include, but are not limited to:

  • Grove Scholars
  • Stamps Scholars
  • Impact Scholars

Students should speak to their program leaders in these and other university programs to understand the availability and requirements for accessing affiliated aid for their Study USA experience.
