Instructor Information: Hi, and welcome to the Independent Study High School at Ole Miss and Environmental Science. I am Dr. Sarah Trotman Lacy, and I will be your online instructor. Just to let you know a little about myself, I taught Biology I, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Math, and Advanced Placement Biology for the Oxford School District for 39 years and retired in May 2011. I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Mississippi University for Women, a Master of Science in Biology and Ph. D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi. I have two sons, Brooks and Stuart, and three cats: McKittrick ìKitt,î Missy, Coco and Isbell. I hope that you will enjoy this course, and if you ever have any questions or concerns, just e-mail me at drstlacy@gmail.com. When you have a chance, send me an e-mail and tell me about yourself. This course will cover 14 of the chapters in the text. Several chapters will be tested on together. Please enter this course with an open mind. Even if you do not like science, give the course a chance because I think you will find it interesting to learn about your environment and the impact humans, including yourself, are having on your environment. Course Description: Environmental Science is a laboratory-based or field-based course that explores ways in which the environment shapes living communities. Interactions of organisms with their environment should be emphasized along with the impact of human activities, research, the use of technology, and the effective communication of results through various methods are integral components of this course. Environmental Science is a half-year course (.5 Carnegie unit) covering 10 lessons. The course is self-paced. |
