Instructor Information: I am a high school Business and Technology teacher at Oxford High School located in Oxford, Mississippi. I have a AAA teaching license issued by the Mississippi Department of Education. I have been teaching for approximately 9 years and love every moment. I am currently a doctoral student pursing a PhD in Educational Technology. I believe there are important learning moments for every student; every student is successful in their own unique way. Course Description: Accounting is an essential aspect of every business institution and organization. As future workers, small business owners, and entrepreneurs, students who understand basic accounting principles will more knowledgeably manage their companies' financial resources. As citizens, future parents, and investors, these students will be better prepared to make the economic decisions that will positively impact their communities and make the financial decisions that will affect their own economic futures. Accounting I will allow students to learn accounting terminology, principles, and procedures as they relate to a single proprietorship, a partnership, and a corporation. The study of accounting will prepare students for accounting careers and for personal use, as well as provide opportunities for further study. |

Required Textbook: Fundamentals of Accounting 8E Course 1. by Gilbertson, Lehman, and Ross. 2006 Thomson South-Western. ISBN 0-538-72808-6 It is the student's responsibility to order his or her textbook. Online textbook retailers such as Amazon.com, ABEbooks.com, or Half.com usually provide used textbooks at economical prices. You must make sure you are ordering the exact book required in this syllabus. |

Course Outline:You will find 10 units that comprise this course, and each unit will be set up in the same basic format. Most units are designed to take approximately one week to complete, and each unit will have a Unit To Do List as the top page when you click on the unit folder. On this page, you will find a checklist of assignments and directions that will help you to complete the unit. Use this as your guide to the kinds of materials and assignments (discussions, dropbox assignments, quizzes, etc.) you will be asked to participate in for that unit. There is one proctored final exam in the course. |
