Students will:

  • Travel to the home base for magazine and magazine media publishing, New York City
  • Gain knowledge from one of the most respected people in the magazine business, Dr. Husni aka Mr. Magazine™
  • Meet and network with professionals in the magazine industry in New York City
  • Visit major publishers, including Hearst, Meredith, Time Inc., Condé Nast, Bauer, and the Magazine Publishers of America
  • Interview editors, publishers, and designers from some of the top companies in the world
  • Acquire first-hand experience on how magazines are made

Location:

Students will depart for New York City on May 10 and will spend six nights in New York City, returning on May 16. The following week will be spent on the Oxford campus. Shared hotel accommodations will be provided.

Who should go?

This program is for Journalism or IMC majors who are classified as a Junior or above. Good writing and editing skills are preferred and knowledge of InDesign is a plus. Preference will be given to students who have completed JOUR 401 or IMC 602.

Dates:

The program dates are May 10-22, 2015. Students will spend May 10-16 in New York City, followed by classroom instruction on the Oxford campus from May 18-22.

Travel:

Students will make their own arrangements to and from Chicago and meet with the group at a designated time.  Airfare can be billed to your bursar account by making arrangements through Regina Bryant at Travel Leaders at rbryant@travelleaders.com or (800) 624-6579, ext. 133.

Costs:

The course fee is $995 plus tuition. Included in the course fee are accommodation and tours. Excluded from the course fee are the Study USA application fee, tuition, meals, ground transportation, airfare, and personal spending money.
