The Politics of Gay Rights

Students will:

  • Learn important legal and political developments in the movement towards more expansive rights afforded to LGBT Americans
  • Examine wins and defeats in statewide initiatives, courtrooms and in legislative chambers
  • Meet with organizations, party officials and elected political officers on both sides of the argument regard LGBT rights
  • Earn a greater appreciation for the arguments, on both sides of the issue, regarding the politics of LGBT rights

Location:

Students will spend a week on Oxford's campus then travel to Washington, DC where the group will spend five nights.

Who should go?

This course is for political science students. Journalism, pre-law, sociology and public policy leadership students might be interested as well.

Dates:

Students will spend May 12-16 on Oxford's campus. Students will then travel to Washington, DC May 18-23.

Travel:

Students will make their own air travel arrangements to and from Washington, DC. Shared accommodations will be provided at an area hotel.

Costs:

Program cost is $995 plus tuition. Included in the cost are housing, a group dinner and tours. Excluded from the cost are the Study USA application fee, tuition, meals, travel expenses, and personal spending money
