What You'll Do

Students will visit:

What You'll Learn

  • Gain an introduction to healthcare experiences of minorities in the U.S. through direct exposure to their historical contributions to the field.
  • Develop a deeper cultural awareness in healthcare.
  • Gain first-hand experience with community engagement by observing healthcare professionals in various settings, including shadowing and/or volunteering in hospitals, clinics, or with other healthcare providers.
  • Explore diverse perspectives and experiences in healthcare. With critical reflection, this course will encourage you to think more deeply about healthcare and the significant contributions made by minorities in the U.S.

All activities are tentative and subject to change depending on scheduling, booking availability, and course adjustments.

Dr. Sovent Taylor

Director of the Health Professions Advising Office

Dr. Taylor has more than 14 years in health professions advising, and really enjoys this class because it exposes students to historical facts and opens their eyes to how much people had to overcome to be successful even though hardships. Dr. Taylor has taught Study USA for 3 years, and enjoys this class because it allows him to get the know the students on a personal level and understand how they want to contribute to the world of healthcare.

"This is a unique opportunity because it allows students to see what they learn in action. What they learn in this class will not be something they have to imagine; they will actually get to see it. I believe it will have a much bigger impact!"
