Rebel Quest

Virtual STEM Club

Grades: 3rd to 5th
Cost: $75/month
Dates: Fridays, 2:30 – 3:15 pm

Join us for science fun in your own home with our new Rebel Quest Club Series. Each month will feature four weekly activities built around a theme.

Club meetings will encourage students to explore science in action through a combination of guided demonstrations and science instruction.

Register

  • You’ll get a list of supplies your child needs to participate in the activities for each month.
  • After the brief presentation, children will participate in the activity portion. Sometimes, directions will be provided for advance preparation before the activity.
  • Children will be invited to share their projects and interact socially with their peers.

Our Coordinators will send a link in advance of each weekly session in order for your child to join that week's activities. All Zoom sessions will be password protected with participants remaining in waiting rooms until the instructor admits them to the secure session.

Please reach out to us at (662) 915-7621 or precollege@olemiss.edu if you have questions about accommodations for your child.

October: Mars Lander Adventure

Explore air, air resistance, and aerodynamics as we build and test paper air planes, parachutes, shock absorbers, and a mars lander.

Week 1: We’ll build paper airplanes and a launcher to learn about aerodynamics.

Week 2: We’ll design parachutes and learn about air resistance.

Week 3: This week it’s all about prototyping shock absorbers. We don’t want those astronauts to get smooshed when they land!

Week 4: The moment of truth: we’ll create our Mars Landers, do some test runs, and modify our designs to make sure we hit our target.

November: The Science of Baking

Have fun with math and chemistry as we explore fractions, radii, and chemical reactions all while making fun desserts.

Week 1: Bake cookies and get real about fractions.

Week 2: Cakes are delicious...and they can teach us a thing or two about geometry.

Week 3: We’ll do a little bit of mad science this week with chemical reactions in the kitchen.

Week 4: Why do we use some baking ingredients? And why is it important to get the portions just right? This week highlights the secrets of kitchen chemistry.
