Ole Miss MBA Online

Q. Can I transfer credits into the Ole Miss campus MBA Program?

A. Students may apply for up to six hours in transfer credit for courses that closely match those in our program. Per Graduate School regulations, the transfer request cannot be done until 15 credits have been completed in the Ole Miss MBA. The application can be found online. Both the MBA program and the Graduate School must approve the request.

Q. Are there specific requirements for international applicants?

A. International students are encouraged to read the international admission page. We do encourage early applications (complete at least six months in advance of the anticipated start date) to allow offices on campus enough time to review all foreign credentials. If admitted, it will also take time for the study visa to be obtained. International candidates must submit an official TOEFL score of at least 600 or an equivalent score of 99-100 on the IBT.

Q. Do you require prerequisites?

A. The Intro to Accounting and Business Finance (not personal finance) prerequisites may be taken at any regionally accredited college or university. You may apply prior to taking the prerequisites, but you will not be able to enroll in MBA courses until you have successfully completed those courses with a C or higher and the MBA program can verify with final official transcripts. Please see our Admissions page for further details on taking the pre requisite courses with The University of Mississippi.

Q. Do you require entrance exams?

A. Either the GMAT or GRE is required of all candidates, regardless of work experience or previous degrees earned.

Q: Where do I send transcripts?

A: Please send official undergraduate transcripts for application directly to the Graduate School.

For prerequisite verification, please send those transcripts directly to the business school: The University of Mississippi School of Business, P.O. Box 1848, 320 Holman Hall, and University, MS 38677.

Q: Do you offer non-degree or conditional admission where I could take MBA courses prior to being admitted?

A: Only admitted students are eligible to take MBA courses.

Q: If I enroll in the campus program and then subsequently obtain a job, can I swap to the online MBA program?

A: On a very limited basis, students are permitted to transfer from the campus MBA program into the online MBA program. Please meet with Ashley Jones, MBA Director, to further discuss and advise. We are happy to review on a case by case scenario. This ialso applies to students in the online program who wish to transfer to the campus program.

Q: How do I get an assistantship?

A: Campus -All admitted students are considered, based on grades and test scores. If the award process is extremely competitive, we will also review the recommendations and resume, and possibly offer interviews. Students hoping for an assistantship should have a minimum 3.5 GPA, 600 GMAT, and 155 in the verbal and quantitative sections of the new GRE. Each year, the MBA program awards approximately 16 John N Palmer Assistantships. For assistantship details, please review the assistantship tab.

Online - There are no assistantships available for the Online program due to the face to face component of working within the Business School.

Q: If I do not have an assistantship with the business school, what are my options?

A: In previous years, students have obtained assistantships with other departments/schools on campus. If you are awarded an assistantship from another department, please inform our Faculty Director, Dr. Ann Canty at alcanty@olemsis.edu. Because the campus program is an accelerated program with a 12 hour course load per fall and spring terms, special permission will need to be granted to work assistantship hours greater than 10 hours per week. Also, many students have pursued local internships to gain professional work experience.

Online - There are no assistantships available for the Online program due to the face to face component of working within the Business School.

Q: My GPA is high and I have great references, but my test score is very low. Will I be admitted?

A: While the Admission Committee considers the entire application, if your GMAT is below a 500, we recommend that you retake the exam in order to be competitive for admission. If you plan to retake the exam, please contact Mrs. Amy Johnson at ajohnson@bus.olemiss.edu so that your application will not be reviewed until your new score arrives. If you retake the exam, you must adhere to the deadline to be eligible to the term for which you applied.
