Program Overview
The Lott Leadership Institute for Rising 12th Graders is a transformative month-long credit-bearing program that brings together motivated student leaders from across the nation for an unforgettable summer experience at the University of Mississippi. Through academic coursework, leadership development, and hands-on learning opportunities, participants discover their potential as leaders while earning seven hours of college credit.
As part of the University of Mississippi's Summer College, students explore ethical leadership, government, and civic engagement through engaging classroom discussions, interactive activities, and meaningful conversations with public servants and community leaders. Participants strengthen their public speaking, critical thinking, and networking skills while gaining a deeper understanding of contemporary issues and the role of leadership in addressing them.
Beyond the classroom, students build lasting connections with peers who share a passion for service and leadership. The program also provides unique opportunities to engage with leaders at the local, state, and national levels, offering valuable insight into public leadership and civic life. Traditionally, the experience includes a professional development trip to Washington, D.C., giving students a firsthand look at government institutions and its integral components.
Designed to challenge, inspire, and prepare the next generation of leaders, Lott 12 equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create positive change in their schools, communities, and beyond.
