Join Communiversity for an interesting presentation about all things food labels! In this one-time-only class, attendees will have the chance to learn about what to look for—and look out for—in food labels.
Nutrition labels can be confusing to read, because our food packages are also marketing platforms.
Using the FDA website, the class will explain serving sizes, calories, nutrients to limit, beneficial nutrients, and terms like organic or fat-free. There will also be a chance to learn about % Daily Value, processed and ultra-processed, and even foods that don’t have labels (such as fruits and vegetables).
Adults attending this class will use active recall and hands-on learning through class activities. Class participants will also leave with printed information to ensure that the nutritional knowledge gained is always on hand.
This course is a great pick, not only because it is a great resource for someone in any stage of life, but because it is also completely FREE! No fad nutrition plan payments or spending too much on a new diet—this class gives insight about nutrition that is attainable, sustainable, and personal. As they say, see you in class!”
Online registration for this class will close at 12 p.m. on Nov. 11.
This class is presented as part of the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management’s Community Nutrition Service Learning Project.
