Admissions

The UM Summer Language Institutes are highly competitive programs. Prospective students are encouraged to use our early decision deadline to lock in a spot. Students must meet minimum requirements for early undergraduate admission to the University of Mississippi.

UM Admission Requirements

  • Be at least 15 years old by first day of the program.
  • Be in good academic and conduct standing in high school (includes public, private, parochial, or home-educated.)

At minimum, prospective students must meet the early admission requirements of the University of Mississippi:

  • Meet one of these two admissions options:
    • OPTION 1:
      • Be classified as a junior or senior AND
      • Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
      • Submit a School Approval Form signed by principal and guidance counselor
    • OPTION 2:
      • Have a minimum composite score of 30 on the ACT (or SAT equivalent) AND
      • Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
      • Submit a School Approval Form signed by principal and guidance counselor

In addition, students will be asked to supply the following supporting documents:

  • 2 letters of recommendation
  • A personal essay
  • Recommended: ACT or SAT scores
  • Chinese only: A language sample (if applying to be placed in a course above beginner level)

Program Application Process

For United States Domestic Students

Step 1
Complete the interest form. Staff will provide a preliminary eligibility status and make recommendations for next steps.

Step 2
Complete the University of Mississippi application to seek admission as a dual credit student AND then complete the Credit Programs Application to seek admission to a summer credit program.

Important note: The Credit Programs Application will require you to submit some documents. All documents should be submitted to be considered for admission.

Step 3
If admitted, submit the admitted documents requested, select classes and receive schedule.

For International Students

Step 1 
Complete the interest form. Staff will provide a preliminary eligibility status and make recommendations for next steps.

Step 2
Complete the Credit Programs Application to seek admission to any of the following programs: Summer College or the Summer Language Institute.

Important note: The Credit Programs Application will require you to submit some documents. All documents should be submitted to be considered for admission.

Step 3
If admitted, student will receive an I-20 and admission form to apply for an F1 student visa at home country’s U.S embassy.  
Submit required admitted document and select classes and receive schedule 

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee. Students will be notified of the committee’s decision and sent further instructions if selected to participate.
