Senior and Head Counselors

General Job Description:
Lead and support student counseling staff and supervise minor participants. Assist in training design and delivery. Make schedules, monitor job performance, assist instructors and staff as needed. Support logistical plans and transport students. Provide supervision and discipline to minor participants. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Compensation:

  • A scholarship that covers three (3) hours of credit during both the June and July sessions worked for a total of 6 credit hours.
  • Stipend to cover some incidental costs.
  • Housing in on-campus residences shared with program participants for residential programs only.
  • Meal plan to cover 2 meals per day, Monday through Friday, at Rebel Market during the June and July sessions worked for residential programs only.

Elementary Counselors

General Job Description:

Function as teacher assistant for K-5 programs offered by Pre-College Programs. Supervise students inside and outside the classroom. Support logistical plans and transport students. Help in classroom set up and cleanup. Students are required to work a daily, 5-hour work shift (morning or afternoon) from Monday through Friday during the weeks the programs are offered. Summer programs typically run for 8 weeks beginning in May and ending in August.

Note: Ecology Day Camp is located off campus at the UM Field Station in Abbeville, MS. Students who serve as counselors for this program must provide their own transportation.

Compensation:

  • A scholarship that covers three (3) hours of credit during both the June and July sessions worked for a total of 6 credit hours
  • Stipend to cover some incidental costs
  • For students selected to work with our off-campus programs, a small gas stipend will also be provided

Middle School Counselors

General Job Description:

Help in the pre-arrival planning, check-in, and check-out logistics for each week’s camp. Supervise middle school students’ well-being while living in on-campus residences. Escort students to activities on and off campus. Plan and implement recreational, cultural, and sports activities. Enforce program rules and regulations. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Middle school counselors are required to live on campus from Sunday to Friday for the duration of the program. Summer programs typically run 4 weeks during the month of July.

Compensation:

  • A scholarship that covers three (3) hours of credit during the July session worked.
  • Stipend to cover some incidental costs
  • Housing in on-campus residences shared with program participants
  • Meal plan to cover 2 meals per day, Monday through Friday, at Rebel Market during the July session worked.

High School Counselors

General Job Description:

Support weekly and monthly programs’ pre-arrival, check-in, check-out, and post-departure logistics. Supervise high school students’ well-being while living in on-campus residences during the day and overnight. Transport students to off-campus activities when necessary. Plan and implement recreational, cultural, academic, and sports activities. Enforce program rules and regulations. Plan and implement weekend activities. Serve as an ambassador for the University of Mississippi. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

High school counselors must live on campus and sleep in the residence hall when on duty. Summer programs typically run for 8 weeks beginning in May and ending in August.

JumpStart Peer Leader

General Job Description:
Plan and implement weekly academic and social activities for recently admitted undergraduate students. Serve as support and guidance for incoming freshmen. Provide support to weekend activities and some planned and/or special events for other high school programs. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Compensation:

  • A scholarship that covers three (3) hours of credit during the June, July, and August sessions worked for a total of 6 credit hours.
  • Stipend to cover some incidental costs
  • Housing in on-campus residences shared with program participants during June and July only.
  • Meal plan to cover 2 meals per day, Monday through Friday, at Rebel Market during the June and July sessions worked.
