The Writing Center at UM-DeSoto

What is a writing center and what can it do for you?

The Writing Center is a free service provided by the University of Mississippi to help students become stronger writers and critical thinkers. In the writing center, we have a community of peer writing consultants who are specially trained to work with students on any writing project at any stage of the writing process. Our goal is to help students cultivate strategies for stronger writing.

UM-DeSoto Writing Center Hours

UM-DeSoto Writing Center hours of operation can be found on the main Writing Center website.

How can I make an appointment?

Students can make an appointment online to meet with UM-DeSoto Writing Center staff virtually or in person. Students can also call (662) 280-6209 to talk to a staff member.

The Writing Center now offers a correspondence appointment option in addition to face-to-face and online/chat. By choosing the correspondence appointment, students can now select an appointment time and upload their assignment files. The writing consultant will review it during the set time and provide feedback. Students do not have to be present during that session.

For example, if a student has a class at 4 p.m. and is unable to make a face-to-face or online/chat appointment, selecting a correspondence appointment during that time is an option.

We're currently accepting applications for writing consultants.
