What are some of the unique features of the UM program?

Resident Staff of Teachers
A resident staff of certified teachers endorsed in their subject areas provides instruction to the school's global student body. The UM-ISHS also has a principal and associate principal who coordinate the day-to-day operations of the high school, and an academic adviser who is available to UM-ISHS students for assistance in planning and course selection. The high school teaching staff is available for consultation about, and assistance in, any course. Personal, one-on-one student attention is a priority for UM-ISHS staff members.

Fast Turnaround of Graded Assignments
The UM-ISHS staff prides itself on the fast turnaround of all graded evaluations. On average, our resident staff of certified teachers return written course assignments within five to seven business days. General questions received by phone or e-mail are usually answered within one business day.

Student-Oriented Instructional Design
UM-ISHS instructional materials are designed to focus on the unique needs of independent study students. The materials provide all the information students need to complete a course successfully. They are laid out in a step-by-step fashion that makes the learning process easy for students studying on their own. Self-help activities are included so that students can know how they are doing even if they do not have the daily guidance of a teacher.

Service-Oriented Program
Independent study offers students convenience, flexibility, and control over their academic schedules. The UM-Independent Study High School prides itself on the level of service it provides its students. Exceptional customer service is a commitment of the customer support and registration and records staff. They take pride in responding quickly and accurately to student registration needs. Students may phone, write, fax, or e-mail materials, questions, or comments to teachers, the principal, associate principal, or the adviser. All UM-ISHS staff members are willing to answer questions and to help students find solutions to their educational needs.
