What is Wintersession?
Wintersession is a ten-day academic term that takes place in early January. It is designed to offer
Ole Miss students the opportunity to earn up to three hours of academic credit toward the completion of
their degrees during a portion of the five week break between the fall and spring semesters.
What are the dates of Wintersession 2008?
Wintersession 2008 will begin Wednesday, January 2, 2008. The last day of Wintersession will also be the day of
the final exam, Monday, January 14. Spring semester classes will begin on the following Wednesday, January 16.
Why should I take a Wintersession class?
You will have the opportunity to take a course needed to complete your degree or to retake a course if necessary.
There will be more opportunities for internships and for studying abroad for course credit. If you know that you
will be taking some particularly demanding courses during the spring, Wintersession could be the solution to a
lighter course load that term or provide the opportunity to concentrate on only one subject. You can get ahead or
catch up by taking a course during Wintersession.
What kind of courses can I take?
On this web site you will find the academic calendar for Wintersession 2008, as well as a list of all of the
courses that are currently scheduled to be offered. Courses are listed by school and department. Because
details about a particular course may change, you can find the most current information on courses by consulting
the Course Schedule menu on the main Ole Miss page (click here). As you will discover in looking over the class schedule, a large number of courses will be offered, one of which may be just right for you.
How do Wintersession classes work?
Each 2008 Wintersession course will meet for approximately three hours and thirty minutes
each day for ten days (Wednesday through Saturday) for the first week of January and Monday through Saturday of the second week. Final exams
scheduled for Monday, January 14. No classes are scheduled for Sundays, but both Saturdays during the Wintersession will be class meeting days.
How much do Wintersession classes cost?
Mississippi resident tuition is the same as that of any other comparable course taken during the fall or
spring. Non-resident tuition, however, is significantly lower than in the fall and spring semesters, making
Wintersession a real bargain for out-of-state students.
Mississippi Residents | Undergraduate, 3 credit hour course | $616.50 |
| Graduate, 3 credit hour course | $822.00 |
Non-Residents | Undergraduate, 3 credit hour course | $987.00 |
| Graduate, 3 credit hour course | $1,315.50 |
Do I have to pay anything extra to stay in campus housing?
No. If you have already paid for your room in one of the on-campus housing facilities for the 2007-2008
academic year, you do not have to pay anything extra to stay in your room during Wintersession.
How do I sign up for a Wintersession class?
Currently enrolled students may register for classes beginning with the Priority Registration period that
starts October 20. The exception to this date is the Wintersession Study Abroad program that has set an
earlier deadline. For details about Study Abroad trips during the Wintersession click here.
What if I need to withdraw from my course?
This is easy to do, but you cannot do it yourself over the web. If you wish to drop your Wintersession
schedule down to zero hours, you will have to ask the registrar's office to do this for you. The registrar's
office will need a signed note from you (delivered in person, by mail or by fax) in which you provide your
name, Social Security or student ID number, and the course you wish to drop. The registrar will then withdraw
you from the course. The telephone number for the registrar's office is 915-7792., and the fax number is
915-7793.
What if I have more questions?
The Wintersession program is being administered by the Office of
