Instructor Information:

I am Mrs. Rebecca Vuyovich, and I will be your online instructor for this course. I have a bachelorís degree from Mississippi State University in education with an emphasis in business and technology. I also have a masterís degree from Belhaven University in education with an emphasis in technology. I have a wonderful husband, Glenn, and two amazing children, Dominic and Milan.

I have been teaching for two years and have loved every minute of it! I completed the last four years of my college education strictly online and have grown to love the asynchronous learning environment. I am very excited to work with you throughout this course and watch you learn through the online environment. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have!

Course Description:

Cyber Foundations I is an exciting course which encompasses many different skills that will be used throughout your remaining educational career, as well as in your personal life and your chosen profession. This course focuses on digital citizenship, keyboarding, technology applications, problem solving, web development, and programming. The skills that you will learn in this course will be beneficial to you currently and in your future regardless of which career path you choose to take.

Required Textbook:

For this course, you will not need to order a textbook. All reading material is found in each unit.

Course Objectives include (but are not limited to):

  1. Investigate social and ethical issues related to digital citizenship and social media.
  2. Interact with teachers, peers, and course material using a learning management system.
  3. Identify leadership and personal development styles.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of 21st century skills.
  5. Explore careers in each of the 16 national career clusters.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of basic keyboarding information.
  7. Perform keyboarding applications.
  8. Perform desktop publishing applications.
  9. Demonstrate an understanding of spreadsheet applications.
  10. Apply strategies to monitor income and expenses and plan for spending and save for future goals.
  11. Create multimedia presentations.
  12. Demonstrate problem solving using computers and logic.
  13. Apply strategies to create websites using HTML and CSS.
  14. Demonstrate fundamental programming constructs and practices in Java Script while developing animations and games.

Grading Scale:

93 - 100% = A
85 - 92% = B
75 - 84% = C
70 - 74% = D
Below 69% = F

The grading format is as follows:

Minor Grades (quizzes, assignments, journal entries, code.org, keyboarding, and game lab lesson asisgnments): 50%
Major Grades (unit assessments, course exams 1-3): 30%
Final Exam: 20%
