Course Description: Ninth Grade Language Arts is designed to incorporate grammar, reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing into the study of literature and language usage. Areas to be emphasized are cooperative leaning, basic research, and skills in critical thinking, oral and written communication, grammar and mechanics through various writing experiences and reading various literary forms and styles. Studentsí response should show progression from concrete to abstract thinking. This curriculum is designed to promote an appreciation of language and literature. |

Required Textbook: Elements of Literature Third Course National Edition. Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 2003. ISBN# 003-067-2813 Recommended Materials: Any type of dictionary. You will need to look up words you do not know. It is the student's responsibility to order his or her textbook. Online textbook retailers such as Amazon.com, ABEbooks.com, or Half.com usually provide used textbooks at economical prices. You must make sure you are ordering the exact book required in this syllabus. |
