Literature in Venice

Imagine strolling down one of the city's hundreds of canals or sipping a cappuccino at the Piazza di San Marco as the pigeons fly by. You'll have the same opportunity many literary greats have had to experience the beauty of Venice as you study with other UM students.

Reading assignments, to be completed prior to departure, all deal with the history and culture of this fascinating city. It's a way for students to understand better how (mostly) Anglo-American writers have described the city. Time in the city will be spent exposing students to the various events and locations describted in their texts.

The professors say: "We hope students will gain a better understanding of Venetian art, literature, and culture, as well as a deep respect for and love of Venice and a desire to travel elsewhere."
