Comparative Social Welfare: The US & England

The social welfare system of the United States developed on the foundations that evolved from Britain. But from similar beginnings, the two divergent systems have emerged. Looking at the history, administration, and use of these services in Mississippi and London, students will see the differences and identify what is successful in each system. This course, taught by UM faculty member Kristi O’Dell, is intended for social work majors or anyone interested in social welfare in Mississippi or abroad. Students will earn 3 hours of credit for SW 498.
