Sociology of Pop Culture

London is, alongside New York, Los Angeles, and Paris, one of the world centers of cultural production. Using the city as a lab, students will examine pop culture by surveying the wide variety of forces behind the world we encounter on a daily basis. The course, taught by UM faculty member Scott Barretta, is open to all students and includes visits to diverse districts and locales in London including Camden Market, the West End theater district, and the fashion districts of Carnaby Street and King’s Road. Students will earn 3 hours of credit for SOC 315.
