The University of Mississippi, through its Language Initiative, offers incoming UM freshmen an acclerated minor in several languages.
The Language Initiative is offered through the Department of Modern Languages and the Study Abroad Office. Students in the program build their fluency in one of several languages through on-campus study and intensive language study in an international location. The program begins the summer before a student's freshman year at Ole Miss. Students who are currently enrolled at the University of Mississippi are encouraged to apply; however, preference for scholarships is given to incoming freshmen.
ADVANTAGES
- No prior language experience is required. In fact, students with no prior language experience are preferred as the students will embark on the language learning experience together.
- The program is structured so that students can complete a minor in the language of choice in 2 years.
- Native speakers help you learn natural speech patterns and provide instant feedback. Fluency in the language is a key to the program.
- Limited tuition scholarships are available for each language, but students can also join the Language Initiative without being a scholarship recipient.
