THE UM–DUBLIN SUMMER INTERNSHIP

  • An eight-week summer internship program in Dublin, Ireland, for eligible sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
  • The rich history and culture of Ireland experienced through the lens of an internship will offer you an extraordinary opportunity to integrate into Irish life. You’ll fine–tune your communication skills and develop practical professional skills. Students are placed with well–known companies in many industry sectors, as well as with smaller innovative organizations.
  • Earn up to six hours of UM credit and an excellent addition to your resume.
  • You’ll live in Shanowen Square, a new apartment complex especially designed for student use. The fully furnished apartments consist of 3 to 5 single bedrooms with private bathrooms, a shared kitchen and living area, Internet connections, and onsite laundry facilities. Located approximately three miles from the Dublin city center, across from the campus of Dublin City University in the Glasnevin/Santry neighborhood, Shanowen Square is well served by public transportation.
INTERNSHIP PLACEMENTS
    The UM-Dublin Internship can provide a broad spectrum of intellectually engaging internships based on your field of interest, internship goals, and skills. Here are a few of the industries available in Dublin:
    • Business, Finance, and Economics
    • Marketing, Public Relations, and Advertising
    • Political Science

    A few months before the program, you’ll have an individual placement meeting with a member of the internship team to discuss your priorities and placement preferences.

    You’ll receive a provisional placement based on your skills, interests, and professional goals, as well as sponsor’s internship needs and work cycles. A placement description and sponsor website will be sent to you via email. Most students are notified of their provisional placement before they leave the U.S., but some may not find out until they arrive in Ireland.

Program Cost
The cost of the program is $5500. This cost includes housing in Dublin for 8 weeks, internship placement, UM tuition, international health insurance, pre–departure and on site orientations, a welcome dinner, and a farewell banquet.
Dates of Program
Arrive in Dublin: June 2, 2009
On–site Job Interview and Orientation: June 2–5, 2009
7–Week Internship: June 8–July 23, 2008
Schedule
Students will participate in an eight–week professional practice internship, working 32 hours a week, Monday–Thursday.
Course Credit
You can earn 6 hours of academic credit during the intership.

Coursework for academic credit related to the internship will be assigned and graded by an Internship Coordinator at the University of Mississippi. Students will be assigned an Internship Coordinator prior to departure and will be responsible for maintaining contact with their Internship Coordinator and turning in assignments according to the schedule provided by the Internship Coordinator.

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing

  • One letter of academic recommendation
  • One letter of professional recommendation

  • Two passport photos

    Your financial aid will still apply.
    There are also need and merit-based scholarships available to semester Study Abroad students. The UM Office of Financial Aid suggests that all students should review carefully the study abroad information on the Ole Miss Financial Aid home page.
