Exchange Programs

The University of Mississippi currently has exchange agreements with more than 60 universities around the world. Through these agreements UM students can spend a semester or year abroad, and students from international universities can come to Ole Miss. Students who study abroad on an exchange program pay University of Mississippi tuition and fees for the semester that they are abroad, plus a study abroad fee and the cost of required international health insurance. The study abroad fee (currently $1,000 per semester) is a required fee that keeps students concurrently enrolled at UM and at their chosen host institution during their term abroad.  This fee also supports credit transfer upon return.  Students remain enrolled as UM students and receive UM credit for the courses they take while abroad. In the host country, UM students are housed on or near campus with host nationals or other international students. They work with advisors at their host institutions to enroll in courses on-site and to get involved on their new campuses.

Some exchanges include housing and meals; some do not. Some exchange universities also offer excursions and campus events for incoming exchange students. Independent students will find this type of program offers them the greatest connection with the culture and people of the country in which they are studying. The advantages to exchange programs are that students enjoy a high level of independence at a low cost.
