In terms of hours, no. A typical year at the University of Edinburgh will allow a UM student to earn 30 credit hours, which is comparable to a typical freshman course load at UM. However, because of the difference in the way academic credit hours are distributed (one 20 credit course at Edinburgh = 5 credit hours at UM), a student might find it difficult to find 10 exact course equivalents at UM that will count for his or her major. This will be determined by academic advisors at the University of Mississippi.
Yes. Because you will receive resident credit at UM for all courses taken at the University of Edinburgh, most scholarships and financial aid WILL APPLY toward the cost of the Freshman Year Abroad program. Additional need-based Study Abroad scholarships are also awarded every semester, and Freshman Year Abroad participants are encouraged to apply. Applications for Study Abroad Scholarships for Freshman Year Abroad participants should be mailed to the University of Mississippi Office of Study Abroad no later than the Freshman Year Abroad application deadline of March 1.
