Wisdom from the Wiki

Germany is one of the leading motorsports countries in the world. Race winning cars, teams and drivers have come from Germany. The most successful Formula One driver in history, Michael Schumacher has set the most significant motorsport records during his career and won more Formula One championships and races than any other driver since Formula one's debut season in 1946. BEST–FIT MAJORS

Students who have a strong command of the German language can take courses in art history, biochemistry, business and economics, German, history, literature, nutrition, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, and sociology at Friedrich-Schiller Universitat, and business, math, physics and psychology at Universitat Osnabrueck. Osnabrueck also offers some business courses taught in English and a strong language studies program for international studies or German majors. At other institutions, although German language skills are recommended, business administration, economics, finance, and marketing courses are taught in English.

UM EXCHANGE PROGRAMS IN GERMANY

Through our exchange agreements you can spend a semester or year abroad. Students who study abroad on an exchange pay University of Mississippi tuition and fees for the semester that they’re abroad and remain enrolled as UM students.

Independent students will find this type of program offers them the greatest connection with the culture and people of the country in which they are studying. The advantages to exchange programs are that students enjoy a high level of independence at a low cost. To learn more about how exchange programs work, click here.

UM PARTNER PROGRAMS IN GERMANY

The University of Mississippi has approved partner programs in which students may participate. These partner programs allow students to study at sites which may not be available through exchanges. Some also offer unique programs that are tailored to particular academic or career interests. Ole Miss students who study on approved partner programs remain enrolled as University of Mississippi students while abroad and receive UM credit.

UM SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS

Through our short-term programs you can spend summer or winter abroad. We offer programs at long as 6 weeks and as short as 2. You can earn 3, 6, or 9 hours in many business, liberal arts, and applied sciences courses.

The advantages of a Faculty-Led Program are that you can take 3 hours of credit in 3 weeks or 6 hours in 4 weeks while visiting a new country. Because courses are offered during winter and summer terms, you won’t miss any semester requirements – plus, spending time with a professor abroad may help you garner a good recommendation for graduate school or a job.  Wintersession courses will be posted in September.

We also offer short-term programs through our partners listed above.

UM LANGUAGE INITIATIVE FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN

The UM Language Initiative offers minors in German, Japanese, or Russian, as well as scholarships to earn 6 of these hours on campus and 6 hours through a University of Mississippi-approved study abroad program in the language-appropriate country.

The program is structured so that students may complete the minor at an accelerated pace and be guaranteed a scholarship for a short-term study abroad experience. In order to satisfy the minor requirements, the program begins the summer before your freshman year.

Preference in acceptance will be given to incoming freshmen, but enrollment is also open to current UM students who have not declared a minor. Prior language experience is not required, but students must agree to complete the minor in the language of choice in order to receive the scholarship to study abroad during the summer between your first and second year in the program.
