The Lott Leadership Institute Exchange is a federally funded initiative designed to
bring together tomorrow’s leaders today. The University of Mississippi Lott Institute
partners with institutions in Mexico and South Africa to offer students from each institution
the opportunity to participate in a unique program designed to prepare young
leaders for an increasingly multicultural and ethnically diverse global society.
Fifteen to twenty students from each of the three institutions: The University of Mississippi, Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey
in Mexico and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa, will join together for life changing program summer
of 2006.
The programs are focused on building leadership skills, multicultural understanding and relationships between students from
different countries and from a variety of cultural backgrounds. University of Mississippi participants will earn three hours of
US 311, University Topics Abroad, an ABCDF- graded course. The course material will be interdisciplinary and based on
experiential learning. University of Mississippi participants will work collaboratively with students from Mexico or South
Africa, focusing on issues pertinent to a globalization.
Priority in application is given to Lott Scholars; other applicants will be considered on the basis of leadership potential as well
as academic merit. Sophomore standing is preferred. Participants will
receive full scholarships for program costs including tuition, housing, meals, transportation, health insurance and excursions.
Students may apply to either the Mexico or South Africa program.
We measure our success as educators, and ourProgram Catalog and Application forms
successes as educational institutions, on the basis
of the quality of the encounters we arrange.
