Experience the culture, sights, sounds, tastes and warmth of Mexico and its people; live with a Mexican family, and study in small classes at your level. Queretaro is a modern, safe and dynamic city of one million inhabitants, located 130 miles northwest of Mexico City. The University of Mississippi partners with Interamerican University Studies Institute, IUSI, to offer UM students the chance to improve Spanish as well as inter-cultural communication. Spring and fall programs are held on campus at the Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro, close to the heart of historic Queretaro.
Depending on their Spanish level, students will enroll in courses that include: 2nd-, 3rd-, or 4th-year Spanish, Mexican Civilization, and Cross-cultural Seminar. Students will also select from among 3-hour elective courses that include: Mexican Art History, US-Mexican Relations (in English), and Introduction to Literary Translation. Additional course information and UM equivalencies are available online.
A passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling to Mexico. A visa may also be required for semester and all-year study.
