Universidad Catolica de Uruguay - Exchange

The Universidad Catolica de Uruguay (UCU) is located in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. A port town on the Río Plata, Montevideo is the capital of the MERCOSUR and is mainly populated by European immigrants. The city offers a mild climate, clean air and is surrounded by an uninterrupted stretch of white sandy beach. UM students may take intensive Spanish and culture courses, and advanced students may directly enroll in courses offered to UCU students.

  • Study Spanish in an intensive, one month course before the semester begins
  • Select from housing arrangements that include homestays or student residences
  • Live in a modern metropolis with a historical old town dating back to colonial times

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 semesters of university-level Spanish
  • B or better in all Spanish courses
  • 18 years old
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Good academic and disciplinary standing at UM

COURSES

Students will research and select courses from online listings through UCU and the International Affairs Office website. The Faculty of Communication Sciences, the Department of Sociology, the Business School, and psychology are favored by international students because of the specific courses they offer. A special program for international students offers three courses per semester: Uruguayan and Latin American History, Uruguayan Literature (selected authors), and Spanish language.

PASSPORTS AND VISAS

A passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling to Uruguay. A visa is also required for semester and all year study.

Note: The University reserves the right to adjust the cost should there be a significant fluctuation in the exchange rate. It also reserves the right to cancel any programs due to lack of participation or safety issues.
