The University of MS-DeSoto Center and SIFE student organization hosted a Business Ethics lecture on Tuesday, January 17, 2006. Walt Pavlo, former MCI employee, discussed the personal pressures of working in a large corporate environment and the effects of manipulating financial records and money laudering.
Students, faculty, and advisors were on hand to learn from his experiences. Following his lecture, Dr. Bud Hamilton asked Mr. Pavlo, "What is the one piece of advise that you would give to students?" Mr. Pavlo followed quickly by saying, "Speak up when the first signs of dishonestly come up. If one person had suggested we not do this, everyone would have followed. No one did, and it led to years of lies and deception. Speak up."
