Alpha Sigma Lamda Honor Society first class inducted

The University of Mississippi- DeSoto recently inducted its very first class into the Omicorn Delta chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda (ASL). University of Mississippi Senior Vice Chancellor for Planning and Operations, Dr. Morris Stocks, was the guest speaker during the induction ceremony held at the DeSoto Center on Monday, Feb. 19.

This unique academic honor society aims to recognize the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work. ASL is also dedicated to the advancement of scholarship and recognizes high scholastic achievement in an adult student's career.

"We wanted to reward the academic accomplishments that our students have made despite the fact that many of them also juggle full-time jobs and family responsibilities with their school work," UM Coordinator of Student Services Ashley Gray said. "This was a great way to honor their hard work and determination."

Students inducted into the UM-DeSoto ASL chapter had to meet certain academic standards which included having no less than a 3.5 cumulative grade point average on at least 24 credit hours from UM-DeSoto. Members were selected from the highest 10 percent of the class who meet these requirements.
