The educational needs of hundreds of north Mississippi residents are met each year through The University of Mississippi - DeSoto Center. Since the DeSoto Center opened in 1996, the enrollment in The University of MIssissippi - DeSoto Center courses has increased from 80 to over 800 students.
The unique affiliation of The University of Mississippi with Northwest Mississippi Community College at the DeSoto Center provides the ideal mix of academic and technical training for the development of DeSoto County. Northwest, owner of the DeSoto Center, built the campus to provide educational opportunities for traditional day students as well as non-traditional evening students -- those who want to earn college credit while working or meeting family commitments.
Courses taught at the DeSoto Center are selected with student needs in mind. The University offers undergraduate courses in accountancy, business, criminal justice, health sciences, education, liberal arts, nursing, paralegal studies, and social work. Undergraduate courses are taught at the junior and senior level, complementing freshman and sophomore academic courses offered by Northwest Mississippi Community College. Graduate courses in engineering and education also are available.
