The 2 + 2 Program provides choice, flexibility,
quality programs, and convenience. The only thing
missing for many DeSoto County residents - the recent
high school graduate, the working mom, the minimum-wage
earner looking for a meaningful career - is the financial
means to make it happen.
Today, Northwest Mississippi Community College and
The University of Mississippi are embarking on a new
program to complete the equation - the 2 + 2 Scholarship
Initiative. This joint scholarship program will
benefit DeSoto County's traditional and nontraditional
students seeking degrees through the 2 + 2 Program.
The goal is to raise $1 million to be shared in
two endowments: $250,000 to support the freshman and
sophomore years at Northwest Mississippi Community
College and $750,000 to complete the junior and senior
years through The University of Mississippi.
"During my long association with Northwest Mississippi
Community College, I have witnessed the establishment of
many innovative programs to serve the students of our
disctrict. Without a doubt, this 2 + 2 partnership program
with The University of Mississippi ranks among the best.
"I am extremely proud to promote in every possible way the 2
+ 2 Scholarship Initiative designed to raise funds for the
students enrolling in the program. The citizens of DeSoto
County and the surrounding area are being offered excellent
higher education opportunities through this creative
partnership. We at Northwest are proud to be a part of this
wonderful effort."
