Our strategy has two simple goals to address the
scholarship
needs over a three-year period:
- Attract $1 million through 2007 to award a scholarship
to every deserving DeSoto County student. Competition
is intense for outstanding students. For these students,
competitive financial incentives will be the deciding
factor in which university they select. Scholarships
will allow us to attract the best and brightest
students from DeSoto County.
- Create two endowments: $250,000 to support the
freshman and sophomore years at Northwest Mississippi
Community College and $750,000 to complete the junior
and senior years through The University of Mississippi.
" I am proud to acknowledge the great partnership between
Northwest Mississippi Community College's DeSoto Center and
The University of Mississippi, namely the 2 + 2 Program, to
provide scholarships for students seeking a quality
education in our state. The collaboration between a
community college and a four-year university indicates that,
although both entities have a unique role, it takes both
working together with the same purpose and vision to make
the changes necessary to ensure a better life for all
Mississippians.
"We must all strive to improve our systems and ourselves
each day; yet, the real changes that are required deal with
changing the culture so that education is the No. 1
priority, as we have seen in the 2 + 2. The 2 + 2 Program
has proven to be a valuable educational model for our
state, as well as the citizens of DeSoto County."
