Fall 2009 Communiversity Classes
September 2, 2009
The new academic year brings with it many opportunities to branch out and learn something new. University of Mississippi Communiversity classes offer a variety of choices for those interested in a unique learning experience without the hassle of papers, grades, or tests.
Whether you’re looking to master the basics of belly dancing, explore Japanese culture, or learn everything you wanted to know about digital photography, the Fall 2009 Communiversity class schedule offers something for everyone.
You’re especially in luck if you’re looking to add some dishes and desserts to your recipe box. Those interested in learning to prepare Asian and Chinese cuisine can enroll in China native Maria Ko-Lee’s Chinese cuisine cooking class in September or her Asian cuisine cooking class in October. If you’re looking for new tailgate foods to take to the Grove this fall or wanting to introduce New Orleans-influenced fare into your repertoire, check out any or all of Yocona River Inn executive chef Paige Osborn’s four sessions on cooking Yocona style.
Back by popular demand, Communiversity dance classes are back at several levels. Beginner, intermediate and advanced social dancing classes are offered for people who want to master different styles of ballroom dancing such as the cha-cha, the salsa and swing dancing. The six-week Rhythm Dance series, which will be taught by professional dancers Abigail Broome and Scott Bell, will have participants swirling around the dance floor in East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Bolero or Mambo.
If you’re looking to master a practical skill, you might be interested in such classes as eBay Selling for Profit or Personal Protection for Women. If you’re trying to familiarize yourself with your new MacBook or want to learn more about your operating system, enroll in Errol Sayre’s October Mac OS X seminar to get up to speed.
Children can also get in on the fun. Janice Crow will be teaching a Beginning Crocheting class as well as a Beginning Knitting class later this semester for children ages 10-12. Mississippi Center for Martial Arts Director Mark Chevalier will hold a personal protection workshop for children ages 7-12 on Sept. 2.
The fee for each course varies, and each course is offered on a first-come basis. Those interested can register in person, via telephone, online, by fax, or by mail. Participants who are 65 or more years of age receive a 10 percent discount off classes that cost $26 or more.
