Revamped Site Keeps Blues Enthusiasts in the Loop

Oxford, Miss. — Every Saturday night Blues enthusiasts tune in by the thousands to Highway 61, a weekly Blues radio show hosted by Scott Barretta. Now, a highly interactive and newly revamped website allows Highway 61 listeners all over the world access to Barretta’s weekly commentary on some of the hottest topics and events on the Blues scene.

Instead of long articles and releases, Barretta says he tries to keep it simple, offering short tidbits of information for readers and supplementing blog posts with other media forms such as video clips from YouTube.

Since the creation of the site in August, Barretta has posted almost daily, including links to other Blues blogs, event listings, and even music venues and vendors throughout the area. Rather than offering insight and opinion like a personal blog would, Barretta says the Highway 61 site serves more as a filter for Blues news updates and information

“I try to focus on things that are out of the ordinary,” Barretta said. “I want to make things known, but I still want to act as a filter to allow for serious articles about the Blues.”

Highway 61 is recorded and produced each week by the University’s Center for Documentary Projects. For more information about the show or to check out the new website, go to http://www.highway61radio.com/.
