Course Description

Roles and responsibilities of local, state, and federal governments in providing appropriate locations, facilities, programs, and leadership.

Course Objectives:

Upon completing this course, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the evolution, organization, complexity, and scope of outdoor recreation.
The goals of SRA 332 are to help you:

  • Understand the interrelationship between leisure behavior and the natural environment
  • Understand environmental ethics and its relationship to leisure behavior
  • Understand the significance of stewardship of natural resources for contemporary usage and for posterity
  • Understand the history of outdoor recreation
  • Explore the trends and issues facing natural resource managers today and for the future
  • Review principles and guidelines for interpretive programs, environmental ethics, and resources management for diverse use populations, recreation educators, and environmental interest groups
  • Know the local, state, and federal governmental agency policies relative to the provision of outdoor recreation opportunities, resources, and services
  • Become familiar with contemporary job responsibilities of outdoor leaders through agency supported outdoor education, outdoor adventure, and interpretive certifications and training

Course Outline:

This course consists of 18 instructional modules, 3 major assignments, and 3 proctored examinations.
