As you begin your journey with Independent Study, here
are some things that you won't want to miss.
Register
To register for your course, simply fill out the form
that follows this tutorial. You may submit it online or
by mail or fax.
Regardless of the method of registration, it will take
about one week to process and ship the materials to you.
If you have not received your materials in this time,
please contact us for more information.
If you have not yet decided which course you wish to
take, please visit our online list of
course offerings.
Tuition/Fees/Financial Aid Information
Tuition may be paid in full at the time of registration
with cash, check, credit card, or money order.
While our office does not offer financial aid, you may
be eligible for loans, grants or scholarships.
Eligibility must be determined by the financial aid
office of your home institution prior to registration
for an Independent Study course.

should consult with the
Office of Financial Aid.
Advising
To ensure that you receive the course credit that you
expect, we encourage you to speak with an advisor at
your home institution before registering for an
Independent Study course. Because different schools have
varied graduation policies, we cannot be responsible for
the courses that you choose. If you do not have a home
institution,
please contact us.
Textbooks
Instructions on what textbook to order will be in the front
of your syllabus or on your class homepage on Angel. Since
the Ole Miss bookstore does not carry the editions needed by
Independent Study students, most students choose to order
their books online. It is vital that you get the exact
edition that the teacher requires because many professors
rely on page numbers and other factors to get you through
lessons. Therefore, we suggest using ED MAP, an online
textbook vendor, to purchase your book because they make
sure they carry the editions that our classes need.
ED MAP accepts most credit cards and personal checks for
domestic orders. International orders require a credit card.
All in-stock textbooks are shipped within 24 hours of order,
but special items can take 12-15 business days. Books are
shipped via UPS unless shipping to a P.O. Box.
