Withdrawals
Policies on withdrawal depend on whether or not the
student is seeking a degree from The University of
Mississippi. To withdraw from a course, a student should
always officially notify the Independent Study Department
using a withdrawal form, which can be found in your course
packet or at the Independent Study Department Office.
If the student is not a University of
Mississippi student, he or she may withdraw from a course
at any time prior to taking the final examination with no
academic penalty for withdrawal, and no grade will be
recorded. However the student will receive a refund only
if she or he officially withdraws within 30 days of
enrolling. Students should consider carefully before
withdrawing from a course. Re-enrolling in the same course
later requires payment of full tuition. The Independent
Study Department staff is always available to answer
questions about withdrawal or other issues.
Ole Miss students may not withdraw from an Independent Study course
once half (1/2) of the assignments have been submitted, graded and returned.
A grade (A, B, C, D, or F) will be assigned to any Ole Miss student who
has completed half or more of the course. If a student does not complete
the Independent Study course within the maximum permissible time (one
calendar year and two 3-month extensions), he or she will receive a failing
grade.
