Final Grade Report
On completion of a course the Department of Independent
Study sends an official report of grade and credit to the
Registrar of The University of Mississippi, to the
student, and, on written request, to an organization the
student may designate. The grade will be recorded on the
transcript indicating that the course was taken by
independent study. The A, B, C, D, F-system of grading is
used to report the final grade.
Grades earned on examinations and lessons will be considered in determining the final course
grade. The weight of lessons and exams in determining the
final grade varies within each course and is described in
the course guide. Students must pass the final examination
to pass an Independent Study course, regardless of grades
earned on lessons. Completion of a course occurs when all
required lessons and examinations have been graded and
reported by the instructor.
Students who need Independent Study grades to graduate or
to satisfy eligibility requirements for the subsequent
academic term must complete all assigned work and the
final examination in sufficient time for Independent Study
to submit the course grades to the Registrar's Office.
Students should plan their schedules to complete all
requirements, including the final examination, at least 3
weeks before they wish to use the credit.
Examinations are processed through the mail, and time must
be allowed for the procedure. Graduating seniors are
responsible for meeting the deadlines of their academic
degree programs.
Be sure to consult the list of
deadlines for
University of Mississippi students
A copy of the course grade will be mailed to the student's
address. The student is responsible for ensuring that
Independent Study has the correct address for the mailing
of grades.
The Department of Independent Study will not give any
grade reports by phone or e-mail.
