HP 507
SAFETY EDUCATION

INTRODUCTION

Safety Education 507, which you are about to undertake, reveals that accidents are a major cause of injury and death and are responsible for a tremendous financial loss each year. It further points out that safe living involves safety in all aspects of life: one's work, leisure, home, transportation, and the schools one attends.

This study will include all these aspects of safety plus the psychology involved in safe behavior, the legal liability one faces when negligent and unsafe behavior causes injury or death to others, and the role of education in combating the accident problem. It will focus upon three primary objectives:

1.To induce patterns of healthful behavior on the part of the student. It is hoped that from this study of safety, individuals will develop patterns of behavior which will insure the safety and welfare of themselves and their families.
2.To point out vital information as to the potential hazards to life and health as a result of accidents, carelessness, or lack of proper consideration of the dangers involved in everyday situations of living.
3.To provide an educational background in the principles, procedures, and materials for teaching safety in the school, home and community.

This course offers three (3) hours of academic credit.

MID-COURSE TEST AND FINAL EXAMINATION

The student will take a Mid-Course Test and Final Examination at a physical location in a college or university setting. Detailed instructions and Mid-Course Test and Final Examination applications are included in the online syllabus.

The Mid-Course Test, which will consist of 100 questions, and the Final Examination, which will consist of 150 questions will be of the objective type (true-false, multiple choice) utilizing a general purpose answer sheet and taken from the materials in the book whether covered or not in the writing assignments. Students will take a Mid-Course Test after Lessons 1-8 have been submitted. The Final Examination will cover the material in the entire course. Students must pass the Final Examination in order to pass the course.
