Mississippi Science & Engineering Fair:
STATE FAIR

The University of Southern Mississippi will serve as host of the 2003 MSEF State Science and Engineering Fair and to Mississippi's top science students and teachers. We hope that the fair is rewarding and enjoyable experience, and we extend our best wishes to all participating students.

2003 STATE FAIR ELIGIBILITY

General Information - Regional Fairs will contract with Mississippi Science and Engineering Fairs for students to participate in the 2003 State Science and Engineering Fair. Only certain class 3, 4, 5, and 6 exhibitors from affiliated fairs can participate in the State Fair. Participation is limited to those placing 1 through 3 in each category including those designated as Regional Fair ISEF Finalists or alternates to these ISEF Finalists. NO SUBSTITUTIONS FOR THOSE UNABLE TO ATTEND ARE PERMITTED. ALL MSEF Regional Fair Finalists and alternates from affiliated fairs are expected to participate in the 2003 State Fair.

Preregistration - Preregistration for the State Science and Engineering Fair will be processed directly by each Regional Fair Director. The original regional fair registration form (with attachments) for each person eligible to enter the State Fair will be forwarded to the State Fair for processing together with a $6.50 State Fair Registration Fee. The State Fair Registration Fees will come from the Regional Fairs Fees.

Finalists from the State Fair - Each of the two ISEF State Fair Finalists selected will be eligible to participate in the 54th ISEF in Cleveland, Ohio, May 11-17, 2003. Strict compliance with all ISEF Rules is required. Expenses including a reasonable subsistence stipend will be paid through Mississippi Science and Engineering Fairs for selected finalists that have chosen to travel with the Official Party to attend the Detroit Fair. Any others who may be eligible to attend the ISEF as OFFICIAL PARTY must be certified and otherwise authorized to participate by the State Fair and must also pay any and all expenses of attending.

2003 MSEF STATE FAIR SCHEDULE
SUNDAY, MARCH 30
4:30 - 9:00 p.m. Registration and set up projects
9:30 p.m. Colliseum Closes
MONDAY, MARCH 31
7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Registration and set up projects
7:45 - 9:30 a.m. Scientific Review Committee (SRC)/Inspection of Projects (All projects must be approved with a goldenrod SRC Approval slip)
8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Judges check in at the HUB
8:30 a.m. All projects must be setup and ready for SRC inspection
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Project judging and first round Special Awards
(students must remain at their project locations during this period)
12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Lunch (on your own)
12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Judges' Luncheon
Judges' Room
1:00 p.m. "Best of Fair" and special awards judging begins
(students are not required to be present)
2:15 p.m. (Tentative time) All students report to respective project location
to determine status for further judging (check for "GREEN TAGS")
2:30 - 3:45 p.m. Final "Best of the Fair" and Special Awards judging
(students whose projects are "flagged" for this session are required to remain with their projects)
3:45 - 4:15 p.m. (Tentative time) Projects must be dismantled and removed (Please wait for announcement)
4:30 - 5:45 p.m. Awards Presentation
6:00 p.m. ISEF meeting
