COMMEMORATION ON THE BATTLEFIELD
A guided coach tour of Shiloh National Military Park, stressing the military events of 1862 as well as their subsequent commemoration, concluding with a walking tour of Shiloh's National Cemetery. The tour will conclude at the National Park Service's newest Civil War venue, the nearby Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center, emphasizing the experiences of Corinth's black community and developing freedmen camp.

Keynote Speaker

We are honored to host as this year's keynote speaker Earl J. Hess, associate professor of history and the Stewart McClelland Distinguished Professor in the Humanities at Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate,Tennessee. Dr. Hess is the author of several significant books on Civil War military conflict, including Pea Ridge: Civil War Campaign in the West, Pickett's Charge: The Last Attack at Gettysburg, and the seminal The Union Soldier in Battle: Enduring the Ordeal of Combat.

Registration and Fees

UM Conference on the Civil War Registration Fee: $50
Includes lectures, reception, and campus tour.
Educators/students qualify for a reduced registration fee of $35, if registration is accompanied by a letter from your school verifying employment/enrollment.

CEU Processing Fee: $20
Teachers who wish to receive 1.3 CEUs should include a separate check made payable to the University of Mississippi. Applicants will need to fill out an information card a the registration desk upon arrival.

Battlefield Tour, Sunday, May 20: $100
Shiloh and Corinth Interpretive Center
Includes boxed lunch.

Persons flying in for the conference should book airline tickets to the Memphis International Airport. Rental cars from most major rental car agencies are available at the airport.
