GENERAL INFORMATION

Policy Statement:

The University of Mississippi welcomes high school students who wish to take our courses for dual credit at their high schools, either by attending classes on our campus or by taking a course online.

Please note that enrollment under dual credit does not mean automatic acceptance to the University. To be accepted to attend the University, the student must meet the regular admission requirements as stated in all of the University's publications.

The University will follow the requirements for participation as stated in the state legislation. A student wishing dual credit for a high school course and a University course must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA on 14 high school core units. Only those students seeking high school credit as well as University credit will be able to enroll under these circumstances.

Courses to Be Offered:

The University will supply a complete list of courses offered both live and through online services. While most students will be limited to courses at the 100 or 200 levels, some exceptions may be considered for advanced students on an individual basis.

Procedure for Enrollment:

1. The high school must approve the University course for dual credit. The University will supply a copy of the syllabus of any course to the high schools to assist in their decisions.

2. The high school must notify the University in writing of its agreement to accept the University course for dual credit.

3. Once the high school has approved the course for dual credit, the student then must apply for admission to the University through dual credit. The application packet for this program is supplied to any student by request to Office of Summer School, P.O. Box 9, University, MS 38677. A one-time application fee of $25 is required at the time of application.

4. The Division of Outreach will process the application through the Admissions specialist assigned to Outreach.

5. The student will be notified of acceptance for dual enrollment and will be given instructions on how to enroll for the course (depending upon the manner of delivery of the course) and how to purchase textbooks and materials.

6. The student will take the course with the same requirements and same grading scale required of University students.

7. Contact for the student and the high school will be maintained through the Division of Outreach.

Payment Policies:

1. Students will be charged the regular fees for courses taken through the Bursar's Office, just as any other student is charged.

2. Books and materials are the responsibility of the student.

Class Attendance and Behavior:

Students in this program are subject to the same attendance and behavior policies required of all enrolled students. Disciplinary matters will follow procedures outlined in the University's Handbook of Standards and Activities (M Book).

Procedure for Reporting Grades:

1. At the time of enrollment, the student and his/her parent will sign a form requesting that the University transcript be sent to the high school for the grade to be recorded on the high school transcript.

2. Transcripts will be mailed to the high school contact person as soon as transcripts are available after each University term.

Withdrawal Procedure:

1. A student wishing to withdraw from a course must have in writing the permission from his/her high school to withdraw. That permission should be sent to the Division of Outreach.

2. A student withdrawing from a course is subject to the same rules as any other University student and must meet deadlines for refunds as published in the University calendar.
