Media and Documentary Projects In Production

 

A definitive look at legendary Coach John Howard Vaught and his staff, this documentary will offer an in-depth look at Coach Vaught and the men who worked with him over his 24-year run as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels.  Featuring interviews with former players, staff members, and family, the film aims to honor and illuminate this outstanding coach and his dedicated staff.  Producer/Director: Micah Ginn.

 

A documentary on "Blind" Jim Ivy, the campus icon whose school spirit and zeal for life made him a fixture at Ole Miss for almost 50 years is also in the works. Interviews with alumni and friends who knew Mr. Ivy, as well as archival photos and rare film, will help tell the story and preserve the history of one of the Rebels most die-hard fans.  Producer/Director: Micah Ginn.

 

• Under the guidance of local scholars Bill Russell, Dr. David Sansing, Jack Mayfield, Dr. Gerald Walton, and Dr. Harry Owens, a documentary on L.Q.C. Lamar will bring to light the incredible impact that Lamar had on his country and on this community.  Producer/Director: Micah Ginn.

 

• An effort to restore, preserve, and digitize the Ole Miss historical film collection, and in conjunction with archivists at the Department of Archives and Special Collections, to digitize the Senator James O. Eastland Film Collection.  

 

• Currently in pre-production is an educational film for the National Food Service Management Institute on Health Inspections in Public Schools. This production will be distributed among school food service operations across the country.  Producer/Director: Matthew Graves

 

• With the recent completion of The Rise of Southern Cheese for Whole Foods Market and the Southern Foodways Alliance, a short documentary about the Jones Valley Urban Farm in Birmingham, AL, for the SFA is now in production.  Producer/Director: Matthew Graves.

 

• A project documenting the Presidential Debate that will be held at the University of Mississippi in September 2008 is under way.  Producer/Director: Andy Harper.

 

• A multi-faceted documentary project focusing on the social and cultural history of Oxford, MS, The Oxonians involves the digitizing and preservation of Oxford citizens' photographic collections and 8mm home movie collections as well as a long-term oral history initiative geared towards documenting the memories and stories of this place and these people.  Producer/Director: Joe York.

 

The Silence of the Lambs' Grandparents aka Mutton: The Movie--produced in collaboration with the Southern Foodways Alliance and the Union Square Hospitality Group, this documentary film about the self-proclaimed mutton barbecue capital of the world, Owensboro, KY, is set to premiere at the 2008 Big Apple Barbecue Block Party in New York City.  Producer/Director: Joe York

 

“Highway 61 Radio,” with host Scott Barretta and new co-producer and engineer Eric Feldman. continues to be the longest running blues radio show in Mississippi. “Highway 61 Radio” airs every Saturday night at 10 p.m. on the stations of Mississippi Public Broadcasting. On June 1st Highway 61 presents the first in a series of blues concerts on campus by bringing the Reverend John Wilkins to campus for a sunset show in the Grove.  Producer/Director: Joe York.
